My Entrepreneurship Story!

3A

When I was a junior in high school, my uncle, aunt, and cousins went to Jamaica. While in Jamaica, my aunt hurt her knee. She injured it so severely that she needed surgery, but little did they know, the hospital didn’t have enough materials to conduct the operation. When they came back from vacation, my cousins and I discussed with my grandparents and my uncle the unfortunate situation. I was heartbroken to hear that the hospitals in Jamaica don’t have enough supplies. My cousins and I then came up with an idea to fundraise money to buy hospital equipment so that the hospitals in Jamaica would have the supplies to help the injured or sick natives. Hence, Susie’s Knee was born. Susie’s Knee is a company started mostly by my cousins, but I contributed some ideas. Since my cousins were passionate about soccer they have played since they were children, we decided to host soccer tournaments and use the money we would gain and donate it to the hospitals in Jamaica! This was the first time I’ve ever been a part of something so meaningful, and it made me so proud and happy when we sent off the first box of hospital equipment.

Why I enrolled in ENT3003

I enrolled in ENT3003 because ever since my first time being an entrepreneur, I have loved it! I registered for this class last year, but had to drop it because it became extra credits while I was still categorized as a “computer science major.” After realizing that Advertising is my passion, I re-enrolled in this class and I am excited to learn how to find and solve the world’s problems.

  1. Hi!
I think it is so cool and genuinely amazing that you and your cousins came up with the idea on your own to fundraise money for the hospitals in Jamaica. That's a perfect example of recognizing that there is a need for something and working to fulfill that need. I also love the name Susie's Knee, it's catchy and also relates back to the reason that you and your cousins even started fundraising in the first place. It seems like a win-win because people get to play soccer in tournaments and have fun/be healthy, while also raising money for a great cause. I'm also happy to hear that you've been able to realize that advertising is your passion!

  2. Hey Deborah,
The company you and your cousins started sounds like a lot of fun for a good cause. Soccer is a fantastic sport that gets people up moving and brings fans together to enjoy watching the sport. Putting something people already love with a good cause is an ingenious idea. I hope that their soccer tournaments are still going strong!
