Halfway Reflection

Image
14A I think I am pretty tenacious in everything I do. I believe I demonstrate my tenacity by showing how well I keep up with this class. This class is an online one, and with three other on-campus classes, and two online, scheduling and prioritizing can get difficult. Both of my online classes require a lot of time and hard work. One time, while doing a group project, my teammates weren’t cooperating. I felt mistreated and like I was doing all the work that they were going to get credit for. I ended up speaking to the professor and she had told me that in the field of Advertising, sometimes you have to work with others like that, but in the peer reflections, you can tell me all about it. I spoke to my teammates since I didn’t want to give them a bad review, and they ended up stepping up and helping me with the final draft of the project. Some tips:  1.       Never give up, it is worth it in the end 2.       Interviews...

Reading Reflection No.1

13A When reading Walter Isaacson’s book,  Steve Jobs,  I was surprised by many things, his childhood and upbringing such as the fact the he was adopted and that his blood parents never went to college. I was also surprised at the fact that Apple had actually fired him at first, but then rehired him. I mostly admired Steve Job’s tenacity, grit and dedication to continue his goal. Him being fired from Apple or bringing up Apple in his garage is very impressive. I did not admire how Steve Jobs was very dismissive to others, such as Steve Wozniak. Yes, Steve jobs did encounter adversity and failure, since he was young. Jobs kept moving and never let anything stop him. He was very in touch with his determination to reach his goal. Some competencies I noticed about Steve Jobs was that he was very passionate in what he did, he always believed in himself even from the start. I was confused why Steve Jobs had fired Wozniak. Questions: Why did you decide to start a ...

Figuring Out Buyer Behavior No. 1

12A Segment: People who are normally busy and tend to forget to check the dryer lint. What I learned: One of my interviewees gave me an instance a year ago when he lived on campus. He said he was busy studying for an exam at around 10 pm, so he calculated that he would need a total of 2 hours to wash and dry his laundry, and during that time, he would continue studying. He put his clothes in the washer and then transferred it to the dryer when it was done. He then left to continue studying, and when he came back, he realized he forgot to take out the lint before running the dryer, and now most of his clothes were damp. He ended up staying up for another hour and a half, which made him not get enough sleep. The interviewee said he didn’t search for a solution. He just makes sure to triple check the lint from now on. Another one of my interviewees said that she is always in a rush, and she really liked the app idea and the fact that she would be able to add more or less time to ...

Idea Napkin No.1

11A I am a third-year majoring in Advertisement. I am a passionate web designer and social media manager. I am also a brand ambassador for LULA (a car-sharing app) and Tommy Hilfiger. When I have free time, you can usually find me at the gym. After the gym, I throw my dirty laundry in the washer and dryer, which leads me to my invention of the LED indicator on the drying machine. What I am offering my customers: a new easy way to dry their clothes. The idea of Lint lights is to attach an LED indicator so that an individual about to run the dryer would know if they need to check the dryer lint catcher before starting the dryer. Who am I offering it to busy individuals, especially, college students that live off-campus, or working parents. Why they care: Since my targeted audience is always busy, this invention is perfect for them. These working moms, dads, and students don’t have time to rerun their dryer. The LED indicator will be an ideal invention for them. Most dryers don’t...

Testing the Hypothesis, Part 2

9A Summary: After conducting my interviews, I realized that maybe this is not a problem that a lot of people have. The first person I interviewed was while I was at Target. I had asked a sophomore if she had a problem with the lint in the dryer, causing her to re-run the cycle. She said, “as a sophomore, living on campus, I don’t really have that problem because the dryers have instructions and reminds students to clean the lint before starting the dryer.” However, she did say at home, this used to be a problem that happened to her a lot. She learned to deal with it when her mother came up with a rule in the house to clean the lint before starting the dryer. The next two people that I had interviewed basically said that they thought the LED next to the on/off button on the dryer would be a good idea, but, personally, they have no use for it right now, as that problem doesn’t happen often enough. They did tell me, however, that relatives and friends of theirs do make that mistake p...

Solving The Problem

8A  My selected opportunity is the indication on the drying machine. My product/service would be to install an LED indication on dryers to fix the opportunity. As a service, you can hook up the indication to an app on your smartphone to tell you when the lint catcher needs to be cleaned, also give a notification when your clothes are done drying.

Testing the Hypothesis, Part 1

7A  Hypothesis: Many people forget to check the lint before they run the dryer, causing them to have to rerun the dryer. I want to take this opportunity to come up with an easy fix where there is an LED indication of whether or not the dryer lint has been cleaned. The indication would be close to the “on/start” button, so if the light is lit, people can know to check it before running the load. Interviews: I interviewed my three roommates, a mother, and a friend. My first roommate said that she thinks this is an opportunity that can be easily solved. When I told her about my idea, she said she liked it and if there were a way I could implement an app to work with the dryer, that would be better. My second roommate did not like the idea as much, and she argued the people can still forget, but also said that we would need a way to stop being so forgetful. She also said that there is probably already an invention similar to that. My third roommate thought the idea wou...

Identifying Opportunities in Economic & Regulatory Trends

6A              Economic Trend As we discussed in class, plastic straws are being banned as an act to slow down climate change. Just the other day, I went to Starbucks with one of my friends who had ordered a frappe, and when she grabbed the straw, she found out that it was a paper straw, since plastic was banned in the county of Alachua. Since then, I have been thinking about how people don't like to use paper straws because of its tendency to melt after being in a drink for too long. Based on that, there is an opportunity to fix this issue. I think any company with these paper straws or even any induvial who would use a straw for drinking something would be a potential customer. This opportunity would be relatively easy to exploit; we can use more biodegradable materials to create a straw that would be environmentally friendly. https://www.usatoday.com/story/news/nation/2019/08/16/plastic-straw-alternatives-often-bad-planet-people-disabilit...
